Your counseling session is confidential.

 

Client privacy is required for effective and ethical counseling to occur. The California Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT) code of ethics includes this in its rules and guidelines, but laws exist to protect client privacy, too.

In the following specific circumstances, though, I am required by law to report session content to the appropriate authorities. Situations in which I am a mandated reporter are strictly defined, and include:

• Indications of child or elder abuse 

• Threat of harm to self

• Threat of harm to others

​

​
